R11 Driver Review

Taylormade R11 Review

I have to admit, I hate the look of the Taylormade R11 Driver.  I have told all my golfing buddies, the club looks a little afeminate to me.  A little girly and a little soft.  But based on the popularity, I had to give it a review.

So here goes my review of the Taylormade R11 Driver.  For one, the club makes a sound I am not used to.  A bit tinny or a bit hollow.  But I do have to admit it is a solid strike as far as the distance goes in relation to the Titleist D2 and the Ping G15 which I tested together.

Befroe you read my R11 Driver Review, here is the video promo from Taylormade PGA tour Pros – Please bear in mind, they are paid to play this driver, but it is interesting to see what the pros who play the club are saying.

As far as the accuarcy, I found that the R11 was a little easier to draw than the Ping which I found hard to draw and tended to fade more…

As I looked at some other reviews to see if this was a normal thing, I found that this was typical. Here are a few other Taylormade R11 Driver Reviews I found helpful arounf the web:

Anthony DiCenso – This review is from: TaylorMade Men’s R11 Driver (2011) (Misc.) – This new R11 driver is a beast! I was carrying my 08 Tour Burner 250-260, in my very first round with the R11 I was bombing my drives over 270 carry. The sound this club makes with great contact is just second to none. You will turn a lot of heads with this bad boy and make all of your buddies jealous and walking away from the tee box with their tails between their legs. Plus the adjust-ability is top notch. I switched the weights around so it was neutral and it allowed me to play my baby cut all day long. I bought the 9 degree and was teeing it up pretty low and I got very good trajectory. It’s very…

David N. Simms – This review is from: TaylorMade Men’s R11 Driver (2011) (Misc.) – The most beautiful thing about this driver is that it conforms to YOU. You do not have to conform to the driver. Of course, you will need several buckets of balls on the range and some patience and free time to adjust the specifics of the club. Additionally, I would recommend buying some additional TaylorMade weights to match the club to your needs.

I was playing a Callaway Diablo, great driver, 250 yards, nice and straight (when my swing was correct). I am hitting the R11 270-280 straight after about 5 buckets of range balls and some personal frustration getting it set up.

Thoughts on loft – don’t think you’re a professional and go setting the loft to 8*. Try it with everything set to neutral first. Get the loft set before moving on to anything else.

Next adjust the sole plate. I leave mine…

James Dolan – This review is from: TaylorMade Men’s R11 Driver (2011) (Misc.) – I have never written a review on any product before. But I just bought this driver after going to a demo day at the nearby golf course. The last driver I purchased was 15 years ago so thats maybe why I was so amazed by this driver. I had no idea I could hit balls like I did after picking up this club.

It felt like the ball just jumped off the face of the club. I tried the closed face setting but felt like the ball just didn’t have the same pop off the club head so I went back to the neutral setting. I didn’t want to put the club down but it was demo day so I went to try the Ping G15. And hands down for me the R11 was better than the ping. Some websites claim that the ping is more forgiving for high handicapped golfers but not for me and it didn’t take me long to realize that.

But like any golf club….

These R11 Reviews are paraphrased for this page, If you would like to see the full reviews among others on the amazon page, click here

So, I would have to say that, although I do not play the R11, the reviews online and my testing shows that is a great club and deserves its props as one of the hottest drivers on the market today.

As far as the Taylormade R11 price and the best deals on the web, we always scope that out for you as well as reviewing the product.  Here is what we have found:

Belly Putters for Sale

Belly Putter Reviews

Phil Mickelson Putter

If you are looking for belly putter reviews or wondering why the Phil Mickelson putter is showing up across golf courses around the country, you are not alone.  Everyone wants know what the deal is and why one of the best short game players in the world had to try out one of the Odyssey Belly Putters this past year.

There are many types of belly putters for sale today now that a large portion of the top golfers are trying them…  I mean Webb Simpson almost won the FedEx cup with one and Keegan Bradley won the PGA with the long stick.

To put it briefly, belly putters are designed to help golfers better control their putting arc by reducing their range of motion.   This is accomplished by increasing the length and thickness of the club when compared to other putters.  While it is only recommended for short putting, it has quickly become a fad amongst players hoping to improve their scores.

Odyssey Belly Putters

Finding the correct length belly putter is critical.  While the longer length reduces range of motion, it also reduces feedback provided to the golfer when he swings.  This drawback has led detractors to call the long yip-stick a putter for the desperate.

“If belly putters are so good, prove it in the pros!”  That’s what the skeptics say.  Webb and Keegan showed it can improve one’s ability, but the ultimate test for you will be if it helps your scores.

Belly putters have the problem of being associated with older players.  As a result, their use by a player practically screams “I have the yips!” to the golf snobs.  I happen to think that if it improves your game and you enjoy using it, why not?

Here’s a quick video from  PGA pro Bobby Siravo and his take on the Odyssey Belly Putters.  I thought he did a great job of showing you the different types of these putters:

Another weapon in the golfer’s arsenal, belly putters come in fixed lengths ranging from 100 cm to 115 cm.  If you scroll to the bottom, you will see where I found the best deals on the most famous of these putters – the Odyssey Belly Putter

I have to admit it’s hard for me to see a belly putter as anything other than an old man club, but if it works for you…

Ok, I have to admit, I am usually a guy who does not go for the name brand or the most popular clubs or balls. I have tried out a bunch of long belly putters from the Ping, the Titleist Scooty Cameron and the Nike Drone Belly in addition to the most well known Odyssey version.  But to be honest, none compared to the feel and results I achieved with the odyssey.

The big rap on the belly putters is that are great for the short putts but you suffer with the speed.  And all the other putters did have that trait.  But the Odyssey had great feel for the short and the long putts.

So, although I have not yet comitted to user the long stick, I would have to say that the Odyssey Belly Putter is so far and away the best one to get.

Callaway Razr Tour Irons Review

Callaway
Razr Tour Irons Review

Harry here…  I am glad you are here for my Callaway Razr Tour Irons Review because it is going to the most personable, detailed and, I hope, helpful review for you in deciding if the iron is best you’re your game.  The reason for that is because I went thru the long process of reviewing this iron for MY game and after a long (6-week) search, I decided to buy these irons and have played with them ever since and they will be my irons for the next several years!

Callaway has a number of irons in their golf line that have come to surface and reviews are a dime a dozen.  There have been reviews of the Callaway Razr Irons (regular), the Forged Iron, Razr X and the iron I will be reviewing here, the club that I play, the Callaway Razr Tour Irons.

When I decided in June that I wanted….  No needed new clubs, I took 6 weeks to make my decision.  I was playing with the original Callaway Big Bertha Irons for almost 15 years (it was my BIG purchase in 1995 when I was 25 and just fell in love with this crazy game).

So it was time for a change…  I would routinely take 3-5 different irons to
the driving range and pound 6-irons of each club for 60-90 minutes.

The list of clubs I tried was long and includes the following:

  • Titleist APIs – Although I am a Titleist guy (balls/Wedges and Driver) – These did not feel good.
  • Taylor Made Burner 2.0 (these were nice – came in a close second)
  • Ping-i15 (also very nice)
  • Callaway Diablo
  • And about 5-6 others.

I would take out a few each time and try to hit different shots with them and compare the distances with my laser.  Basically, I was a nut – I was obsessed with finding the best iron for my game, for my swing.  An iron that could give me the confidence I needed to win my club championship..

Well, one iron came out on top – My Callaway Razr Tour Irons – Not even close…

As with anything there are pros and cons. Callaway Razr Tour irons are no different when discussing pros and cons. The pros outweigh the cons by far.  The only con or fault can be the design of the shafts of the irons. It is not that the shafts are bad; they are just a run of the mill basic steel shaft. The same style and appearance are very similar to the Razr X and the Forged irons.

Although the basic look is evident, the shaft and the entire iron is constructed well. The balance and feel, as well as ball distance obtained is outstanding. The Callaway Razr Tour irons are a very worthy successor to the older X line.

I am not sure if anyone of you has seen the Ernie Els commercial, but he hits it on the head – Take a look:

As Ernie said, the “That’s what a golf club should sound like”.  I say of the Razr Tour Irons- “That’s what a golf club should feel like!!!”   And that’s the most important thing when you are deciding on which iron to hit.  The feel of these clubs when you hit them it is just fantastic!!!

Balance and feel, technology, distance, and forgiveness of the Razr
Tours irons is what will sell these irons compared to any other brand in
circulation.

Professional golfers and players with lower handicaps like an iron that has a  nice balance and feel to it. The Tour irons feel comfortable and the ball is  very lively when leaving the club face. Nice balance is experienced throughout  the golfer’s swing. When a golfer addresses the ball viewing the iron lines is  cleaner, which gives a positive sense of control throughout the backswing. A
high rating is given to the balance/feel properties of Razr Tour.  I would rate those aspect nine out of ten
stars.

The mid range irons produce an above average yardage versus the X or other  Callaway irons when discussing distance. The six iron of the Razr Tour irons  gives the player a six to eight extra yards in distance compared to the basic
Razr X six iron. The x-24 irons were the best rated iron when talking about distance and forgiveness. The Razr Tour irons are superior in distance as well as forgiveness.

Callaway Razr reviews have always been at the high end of the scale when discussing the long irons. The three and four irons in this group are the easiest to use when striking the golf ball. The technology of these clubs comes down to the golfer’s preference. Some golfers dislike the fluted attachment, but the bevel angle on the bottom is an ingenious design. Even if the old three and four irons have been hard to discard, it will become easier after hitting the three or four Razr Tour irons.

The overall review for the for the Razr Tour irons is an Exceptional 5-Star Rating. In these irons, a golfer receives all the values of a Callaway iron, but with some extra flair. The feel and balance is above average as well as the distance obtained with the irons.

The technology is a clever structure, but is purely up to the golfer’s preference and likes.

As for the shafts, I am a steel shaft guy, but I did try the graphite in order to write this review and for lower swing speeds (under 100) or handicaps over 10, I would recommend you try the graphite and see if that gives you the same feel as the steel.  However, please do not sacrifice the feel of the steel for distance of the graphite.  Feel is much more important!!!

As for the price, it depends on whether you want steel or graphite and if you want brand
new clubs or are ok with getting a gently used set from the golfer that needs cash as opposed to improving their game – Hey, with Nobama in office, the economy stinks, so maybe their loss is your gain!!!

As for my club championship – Made it all the way to finals (first time!!) and lost on
last hole – next year – we make more putts to win – the irons were great!!!

Anyway, as I always do when I am doing these reviews, I have scoured the net to find some
great deals on various sets of the Razr Tours and have included them here for your convenience.  Hope you enjoyed the review – Harry H. singing off….

Skycaddie SGX Review

Skycaddie SGX Review

The Skycaddie SGX GPS from SkyGolf is simply amazing. It is specially designed to combine high quality graphics with advanced satellite technology for unparalleled accuracy when it comes to distances to the green (front, middle and back), as well as yardages to various hazards and yardages to clear such hazards so your ball does not wind up there and you wind up out of the hole and in a bad mood on the course.

It is extremely durable and quite attractive looking as you can see to the left. Its vivid color display is much better than other black and white models I have played with and it is easy to read in the bright sunlight or on a cloudy day. I have been playing golf now for over 20 years and it has been a labor of love getting down to a 1-handicap. I say this not to brag, but to show you I know what I am talking about when it comes to golf. I have tried all types of rangefinders, laser shooters and all the best golf GPS devices on the market.

In addition, I have scour hundreds of other Skycaddie SGX reviews and I have read the good, the bad and everything in between. So, when I went out to test drive the SGX Skycaddie in preparation for my detailed review, I was aware of all the pros and cons related to it. I will summarize these below.

However, before we go any further, I thought since I know everyone loves pictures and video, I would show you a quick little video on the Skycaddie SGX, so you can visualize what I am talking about when I get into my Skycaddie SGX review below:

The one thing to note in the video which kind of goes unnoticed is that a lot of GPS units rely on satellite imagery to determine their yardages. Not Skycaddie. They have walked almost every course in the country (and most of the world) and have extremely accurate yardages. I have tested most of their yardages as I walked them off to determine their accuracy and have found them to be extreeeeemly accurate. Maybe my walking gate is right on with their yardages!!! LOL!!!

Another thing that I absolutely love about the SGX is that it already comes preloaded out of the box with over 30,000 cources on it!!! No syncing up to the pc and setting up an account to get the courses you play on there. This is done and dusted for you right out of the box!!!

Now, you can log on and track your scores and stats that you recorded during the round but you don’t have to if you don’t want to and that is the best feature of the SGX.

Let’s take a look at all of the Skycaddie SGX’s features.

  • 3-Inch, High Resolution Vivid Color Display
  • Dual Navigation leads to precision accuracy (I’ve tested)
  • 30,000 Pre-loaded courses!!!
  • Yardages to greens, hazards and layups
  • Interactive HoleVue with Zoom (Nice feature!!)
  • Intelligreen feature for detailed Green features and pin locations
  • Ability to measure any shot to know how far you hit all your clubs
  • Digital scorecard and stat tracking
  • Full line of accessories and customer support

Overall, I have used and tried almost every popular golf GPS unit on the market since they were introduced. I have to say that the SGX is bar far the best one I have tried. It is among the most expensive on the market, but well worth every penny for the avid golfer. Yes it is among the most expensive and if it exceeds your budget, take a look at some of the others I have reviewed on this site and add them to your bag.

Let me show you what current owners have to say about it.

“Love it – I use it every hole multiple times – I had tried the Bushnell Yardage Pro XGC – but it didn’t have all the features of my new SGX – the green view – and ability to manipulate yardage is simple hands down the best in the field. You can do so much more with a GPS unit than a laser – and it is accurate as my Bushnell Laser.”

Review paraphrased for size, see the full review and others here

Here’s another one I found to be pretty accurate and gives some insight on comparing the Skycaddie SGX to the Callaway Upro:

“I initially purchased the Callaway Upro GPS thinking that it was a good deal because you don’t have to purchase a subscription. Then i realized that i had to purchase 150 bucks worth of credits to get the courses down to a reasonable rate.

That is 5 years worth of state subscription or 3 years worth of nationwide. Considering the flimsy feel of the callaway i didn’t think it would last that long. i played 2 rounds with the callway and immediately noticed that the yardages were off by about 5 yards. I thought the markers on the course could be off to I stood in the middle of the green and it would tell me i was 5-7 yards away. same for front and back of the greens. Also, the screen is very small.

Onto the Skycaddie SGX. First off, it is very solidly built and comes with a very nice case and screen protectors. I couldn’t get the sync to work at first. I unplugged and and restarted a couple of times and then it synced and updated the firmware. After that it syncs the first time every time.

It has a very large screen that is easy to read in the sunlight and the battery goes down about 30% per round. You can easily play 36 holes with no recharge. The GPS is very accurate, and the intelligreen feature rotates the green to show you distance to front back and middle from your angle of play. The course i played actually showed major dips and false fronts. The coolest feature is the score keeping and stat tracking. Input your score and when you sync your stats are uploaded on to a web page that you and your buddies can view. Very fun.”

Review paraphrased for size, see the full review and others here

My Conclusion:

So, basically, I have give you a stellar review of the SGX. The unit is for the serious golfer who is ready to take their game to the next level and needs a device that has all the features an avid golfer would need in a GPS device.

The SGX is not for the 2-3 round per year golfer who will not utilize all its amazing features and spend premium dinero and not use all the functions.

I have summarized the best and worst points about the SGX below:

The Good
  • Great Durable Device that has great Video Display
  • 30,000 Courses Preloaded – Ready to work out of the box!!!
  • Easy Navigation and deadly accurate…
  • Intelligreen feature to see yardages to any spot on the green or hazards
  • Able to input scores and stats and track on the computer.
The Bad
  • Somewhat cumbersome syncing interface
  • Pricey at almost $400, but definitely worth it!!!
  • No more excuses when YOU Screw UP!!!! LOL!!!

Pro v1 vs Pro v1x

Who wins the battle of the Titleist Pro v1 vs Pro v1x??

Ahhh…  the Titleist Pro v1 Review – The Golf Ball that is – As the slogan say’s – “The #1 Ball in Golf”…

And everyone knows that if they play a Titleist, they must be either a Pro v1 or a Pro v1 golfer.  But which one is better, which one is longer, softer, more durable.  Which one is better suited for your game???

Well let’s get to all that good stuff right here and right now in our Titleist Pro v1 Review.  We not only review which ball is best for you, but where you can get the titleist pro v1 price checks from all over the web and where the cheap pro v1 sales are happening right now!!

Obviously we know that to get each club in the bag to perform at it’s best is vital to shooting low scores in golf. Getting the best performance (yardage and control) out of each shot means one will make fewer strokes and one will be able to take easier shots with scoring clubs. The most important factor for getting more distance and accuracy is the golf ball.  Period, end of story.

We put these reviews together because I often find that most amateurs use the wrong ball.  Most of them believe they “need more spin”, thinking this will help them hold the green on their approach shots.  However, 95% of these golfers do not hit the green with their approach shots and these golfers should be looking for less spin and more distance.

The sad, ugly lie in golf is that most golfers think they are better than they are (yours truly inlcuded even though I am a 2-handicap)…  So, we need to be honest with ourselves and realize that most of our shots are from around the green because we are not hitting the greens in reg.  So pitch and chip shots are the shots we take most of the time.

So, we should be looking for a ball that perfoms best on those shots.  Not the 7-irn from 155!!!

With that knowledge, please read the following reviews asking yourself, which ball is better for me for thos shots…

So, for a majority of amateurs that rarely hit the green with their approach shots and are often running the ball up to the green which requires no spin at all.
Actually, the spin hurts them here.

Another reason is too much spin off the tee will make a bad shot worse.  For example, if you tend to slice the ball or fade it, a high spin ball will turn a fade into a slice and a draw into a hook.  Whereas a high distance, lower spin ball will produce a straighter, longer shot every time.

Determining the right ball to use can be tricky but we have compiled list of the top ten golf balls for distance that can help you find the best ball to use that gives you maximum
distance, but still offers enough spin to help you on the greens.

So without further ado, here are the basics you need to understand in the analysis of the the Pro v1x vs Pro V1:

Titleist Pro V1x:   This is the ball I use and I absolutely love it.  The Pro V1x is an extremely strong all around ball in terms of versatility and distance for the average handicapper. The Pro V1X is a ball designed for the lower handicapper to professionals.  Although all levels of players love to say “I use ProV1X”…

With a soft feel and plenty of spin and distance, the Pro V1x is great on the tee,  on the green, and everywhere in between.  Since I like a lot of spin for some specialty shots I like to hit around green, I really love the “bite” the ball has.  The average to high handicappers usually get tripped up on this aspect because there approach shots do not “run out” like they expect and they come up well short.  The ProV1X is not the ball I recommend for the average player.

But overall, you really can’t go wrong with this ball once you know how it reacts and adjust accordingly.

Titleist Pro V1:  Like its bigger brother, the Pro V1 is a great all-around golf ball. This ball is about 1.4 yards shorter than the Pro V1x but is a little more accuaret on off-center hits.

However, it is a little more durable than its bigger brother and has higher launch and less spin than the Pro V1x, which is a little better for the higher handicapper.

Conclusion:  If you are an accurate player that hits the ball high and usually sticks the ball where it lands, I recommend the Pro V1x.  However, if your are a player that hits the ball more wildly and your ball flight is ower and you tend to run the ball onto the greens, I recommend the Pro V1.

As promised, I not only review and recommend which ball to use for my readers, I actually have scoped out the best places to get your Pro V1 or Pro V1x balls on the internet.

Here is what I found and please note that these prices will be update everday with the most current prices and the best deals I have found on the internet.  So bookmark this page and come back anytime you need to find the website that has the best Titleist Pro V1x sale!!!
